Uncle Ralph
A Harbour Island Fixture
As I’m still learning to navigate {what is} my substack, I’m not sure if you want to see my photography or my closet/current wants etc. Here I offer a glimpse into my trip to Harbour Island which offers more than just a picture perfect pink sand beach, it’s an invitation into a tight-knit community with its own customs, rhythm, and way of life. basic Local Etiquette can help ya feel more connected and respected during your stay. First and foremost, greetings matter. On Harbour Island, it’s customary to say “Good morning” or “Good afternoon” to nearly everyone you pass, if you live under a rock or you’re a total asshole or just someone who generally stays to themselves it may feel unusual at first, but it’s most important to show warmth and respect.
I was bopping around on the golf cart our first day and met Ralph sitting outside his neighbours store. What a cool dude. And so nice!
On a second visit to visit Ralph (the island is very small, 3.5 miles long and 0.5 to 1 mile wide) He was wearing a yella bandanna sitting on the opposite side of the street this time and I had to capture his yellow bucket chair!
On our last day I was on a mission to find a local license plate. I was dreaming of one all night, about 8 am I rode over to see if Ralph had one or knew where I could cop. His neighbours told me to knock on his door..Within seconds he came out to greet me, I asked about the plate of my dreams and he said gimme a sec, came back with a dusty turquoise plate in hand! Even better than I could of dreamed of, antique at that! Thank you Ralph!!!! I can’t wait to get back there again!!! If you’ve been you know but if you do some web research you’ll see his corner is decorated with license plates from all 50 states that visitors have exchanged with him over the years. I look forward to the day I can return and bring him something!!

Love the yellow shot 2
Ralph is a legend.
